About

Why we
do this.

More and more people sense that something is off. Prices rise without performance rising with them. Saving no longer pays. Owning the home you live in becomes a cost trap. Invest in equities and you get moralised at; sit in cash and you lose real money. Ask a question, and you get a headline in return.

The system is not accidental. It is designed.

But almost nobody explains how it actually works. Some explain too abstractly. Others sell panic — or solutions that hurt more than they help. Blind Insights is an attempt at a third path: calm, clear, walk-through-able. No buzzwords. No filter. No claim to tell you what to do — but a claim to show you what is actually happening.

01 · Reader

01

For whom

For readers who suspect the answers they are being handed are not enough. Who want to understand, not just consume. Who know that judgment gets sharper the deeper the understanding underneath it.

More concretely, for readers who

  • know the economy is complex — and refuse to be fobbed off with simplifications
  • want to make their own decisions on money, investing, retirement
  • keep distance from political camps — and still want clear analysis
  • put mathematics above opinion, even when the mathematics is uncomfortable

02 · Author

Who is behind it

02

Blind Insights is edited under the pen name Mathis Lenz.

Mathis Lenz is an analyst with twenty-five years in financial services and insurance — with hands-on exposure to sales, advice, and structured distribution. That means direct visibility into commission structures, product design, and how classic retirement and savings instruments — 401(k) and IRA vehicles, whole-life insurance, mortgage-linked products — actually work in the retail channel.

That practical exposure is the foundation of the Blind Insights analysis. What appears here about retirement products, life insurance, or long-term savings is not drawn from textbooks — it comes from thousands of real advisory conversations.

Why a pen name

Mathis Lenz publishes under an author name to separate the editorial work from a professional past. It does not affect responsibility for the content: the natural person legally responsible is fully identified in the Imprint . This kind of separation is standard practice in publishing.

03 · Method

How we work

03

Principle 01

Mathematics before opinion

Every analysis rests on concrete numbers, verifiable sources, and calculations you can follow. Where numbers are unclear, we say so.

Principle 02

Mechanism before morality

Blind Insights asks "how does this work structurally?", not "is this fair?" Value judgments are left to the reader.

Principle 03

Positioning without allegiance

The BI perspective is broadly liberal in the classical sense — property rights, markets, individual freedom — but not tied to any political camp. The analysis follows facts, not programs.

Principle 04

Clarity before panic

Blind Insights does not sell doomsday scenarios or ready-made solutions. The ambition is clarity — even when clarity is uncomfortable.

04 · Sources

04

Data & anchors

Primary data

US Federal Reserve, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), Bank for International Settlements (BIS), IMF, OECD — central-bank publications and national statistical offices where relevant.

Journalism of record

Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg — cross-referenced against primary sources, never relied on alone.

Academic anchors

Rogoff and Reinhart on financial history and debt cycles; El-Erian on markets and central-bank policy; peer-reviewed macro-finance research where a claim rests on empirical work rather than reporting.

05 · Tools

05

On our tools

Blind Insights works with modern editorial tools. Topic selection, fact-checking, positioning, series architecture and editorial responsibility sit entirely with the author. For drafting, structural suggestions, and layout work, AI-assisted tools are used.

The analogy: traditional newsrooms staff researchers, copy editors, and designers. Blind Insights uses their digital equivalents — the editorial voice remains the author's.

What this means for readers

The fact base is checked, the positioning is set, and the analysis follows a line held consistently over time. That modern tools help with the work does not change the responsibility for it.

06 · Boundaries

What Blind Insights is not

06

Not investment advice

Blind Insights analyses structures — not your individual situation. Specific investment, retirement, or tax decisions belong with a qualified adviser.

No sales intent

BI sells nothing. No courses, no coaching, no advisory services, no product referrals. The newsletter is free; the articles are open access.

No political program

BI has no voting recommendation, no candidate preference, no camp allegiance.

No doomsday economics

BI does not sell crisis narratives. When something goes wrong, we set it out mathematically — without fear-mongering.

07 · Legal

Publisher & responsibility

07

Blind Insights is an editorial information service. The natural person legally responsible for the content — together with contact details and the pen-name disclosure required under German press and tele-media law — is identified in the Imprint.
